Cameraless Photography

Scanner as Camera

Using the scanners to create self portrait images allows the photographer to utilize 2D and 3D items to make a composite. The items and pictures I used are some of my possessions that best represent me as a person. I used my cameras and images to express my photography persona and the leaves and bark to describe my love for nature and how I often take pictures in nature. These pictures are self portraits of myself because they express my characteristics as a photographer, nature lover, and explorer without always incorporating my physical body into the image.

Homework Assignment #1

Part A
What moment from your life do you most wish you had a photograph of? Please describe the importance of the chosen moment from your life, and why no photograph exists.

There will always be split seconds of time, where I notice how the light is perfectly shinning on something but the moment fades too quickly to capture a photo. That is a curse all photographers must live with. The moments from my life that I most wish I could have captured are all the memories I had before I was trained to use a camera because as children we see things from different perspectives, both physically and mentally. I specifically remember when I was about eight years old I was skiing with most of my father's extended family. There were around twelve of us and it couldn't have been better weather for skiing in Vermont. We had gotten up early to get the first tracks and on our third run we stopped at a scenic overlook on the top of the mountain. I was the last to ski up to my family overlooking the vast Vermont mountain range so I stopped short. I remember thinking how this wonderful silent moment my family was experiencing would be a perfect picture to hang on a wall at home. Sadly camera phones and point and shoot cameras were not common at this time so it was impossible for me to capture this moment. So I took of my skis and joined my family in silence.
